As a girly who loves a romcom I was very excited to watch ‘Voicemails for Isabelle’, even though I knew it had a sad touch to it. When I say I was hooked from the moment it started and sobbed multiple times throughout I mean it, could be one of my new favs because it had everything I love and more in a movie.
I love movies that are feel good but can give a emotional edge to them, but I guess sometimes that’s down to what triggers emotion for you and what would make you cry. I love Mamma Mia but the second movie makes me cry a lot due to personal experience of losing my mum and I thought about that a lot when watching ‘Voicemails for Isabelle’. I don’t have a sister but missing someone I understand and that’s all I thought about in those touching moments throughout especially when Jill (Zoey Deutch) says to Wes (Nick Robinson) that she doesn’t need someone to love she wants her sister back.

This movie had everything I want from a film laughter, romance, tension and sadness. An emotional rollercoaster if you will, the first 30 minutes had me on edge as I knew I was going to cry as it was quite obvious where the storyline was going, broke my heart watching them in the hospital. However, you then get funny moments with Wes (Robinson) listening to the voicemails, Jill (Deutch) calling out a guy who stood her up and her work environment was really weird but was a source of entertainment throughout the movie. The romance and tension between Deutch & Robinson’s was sensational, they had great chemistry and we stan Wes (Robinson) for not fully letting anything happen because he hadn’t been honest yet about the voicemails and slept on the couch. When Jill did find out about the voicemails that was the worst way she could have and you could see how distraught they both were about it in the following scenes.
The ending was what got me the most just how considerate Wes is and Jill now feeling like she can move on in a sense, then Robyn’s ‘Dancing On My Own’ which we seen in a scene at the start playing and Jill getting to dance to that with Isabelle showing in the background and then Wes joining in, actually stop it was too much for my heart to take, took me a while to fully calm myself down after it had finished. It was so emotional but in the best way, something you know if you want a cry you can always go back too.
